While shopping for a scope for my newly acquired rifle, I looked at many mid to high range riflescopes. I had almost settled on a Swarovski 6i when I found this one.
I would not rate the glass in this scope as good as the Swarovski, but my old eyes can't see the $2000+ difference in price.
The Leupold has a crisp image throughout the magnification range. It does seem to lose a tiny bit at the maximum magnification - but that could be my eyes.
I absolutely love the ballistic FireDot reticle. You can turn it off our adjust it throughout its brightness range. I read many lighted reticle opinions, and this was one of the very few models that did not overpower the image during low light situations. It certainly speeds up target acquisition.
My only complaint with this scope is, at this price, I expected it to include some type of lens covers and a battery. Not a costly issue, just time consuming and annoying. Thus the 4 star rating.
I can not speak on accuracy yet because I have only bore sighted it. Mounted on a Sako 25:06 with tuned loads, any misses will be on me.
One of my other hunting rifles has a Leupold VX-III and I have been very satisfied with it. The VX-R should improve image quality during low light hours.
